Pain Management Billing and Revenue Cycle Management

DOCS4DOCS runs the full revenue cycle for pain management practices, from checking a patient's benefits before the visit to collecting the final payment. Because we work only with pain management, our team knows the codes, payer policies and documentation rules behind interventional pain procedures, which means cleaner claims, fewer denials and faster payment.

What’s included

What does pain management billing include?

What does a pain management billing service include?

A pain management billing service covers the whole revenue cycle: verifying insurance and benefits, tracking prior authorizations, coding each procedure and visit, scrubbing and submitting claims, posting payments, working denials and appeals, and following up on every unpaid claim, with regular reports on collections, denials and outstanding A/R.

  • Insurance eligibility and benefits verification before every visit and procedure
  • Prior authorization tracking so procedures are not performed without approval
  • Charge entry and CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding for every procedure and visit
  • Claim scrubbing against payer edits and NCCI rules before submission
  • Electronic claim submission and clearinghouse rejection handling
  • Payment posting from ERAs and paper EOBs, with underpayment checks
  • Denial management, corrected claims and written appeals
  • A/R follow-up on every unpaid claim, by payer and by age
  • Clear reporting on collections, denials and outstanding A/R

Why is pain management billing different?

Interventional pain procedures are among the most heavily reviewed services in medicine. Epidural steroid injections, facet injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulators and kyphoplasty all carry Medicare coverage rules, frequency limits and documentation requirements, and commercial payers often add their own prior authorization programs on top.

A general billing company that also bills for primary care or dermatology will miss details like bilateral modifiers on facet codes, the level limits in Medicare's epidural and facet policies, or the diagnostic block results a payer expects before it pays for RFA. Those details are exactly where pain practices lose money.

How do pain management practices get paid?

Pain practices are paid by a wider mix of sources than most specialties: Medicare and Medicare Advantage, Medicaid managed care, commercial plans, auto insurance and PIP, workers' compensation and attorney cases. We bill each one by its own rules, and we handle the out-of-network disputes and accident claims that general billers avoid.

FAQ

Pain Management Billing questions

What is revenue cycle management for a pain management practice?

Revenue cycle management (RCM) is every step between scheduling a patient and collecting payment: verifying insurance, obtaining prior authorizations, coding, submitting claims, posting payments, working denials and following up on unpaid balances. For pain practices it also includes tracking Medicare coverage rules and frequency limits for interventional procedures.

Do you work in our existing EHR and practice management system?

We work inside your existing systems wherever possible so your providers do not have to change how they document. Contact us with the software you use and we will confirm.

Can you take over billing from our current company or in-house team?

Yes. We plan the transition so claims keep going out, and we follow up on the open A/R left from the previous biller so older claims are not written off.
